by Main Street Pittsboro
Spring has sprung and all of Pittsboro is bright green with a lot of yellow pollen mixed in. These bright hues bring to mind two things: the promise of farmers’ fields found just outside of downtown abundant with fresh growth, and the renewed sense of creativity for local artists of all genres.
In Pittsboro, small farms and a robust creative culture is a way of life. So, Main Street Pittsboro is celebrating this good life with a pop-up dinner that has a super-local twist. We’ve gathered area farmers, chefs, restaurants, craft beverages, and visual and performing artists to bring local creativity right to our main street.

Dine On Hillsboro Street
Here’s the plan: we’re going to block off Hillsboro Street north of the courthouse for folks to gather. First up is cocktails at a cash bar (bring plastic and cash just to be sure) in the Page Vernon Pocket Park with a local instrumental duo. Then we’ll move down the block a bit to tables and chairs aligned down the middle of the street and decorated with fresh flowers for a seated three-course dinner prepared by chefs from local restaurants. Local ambassadors will be hosts and share tales of the town— our history, our character, and our culture— while the setting sun gives way to stars above the courthouse tower. A live local jazz band will play while dinner guests enjoy the bounty of local farms, and the creativity of culinary artists who turn those fresh raw resources from the fields into plates of color, texture, and flavor supported by creative treats for the eyes and ears.
An evening like this requires a whole lot of people and it all starts with…

About Main Street Pittsboro
Main Street Pittsboro is a non-profit organization working on “economic development within the context of historic preservation.” That means we aim to keep Pittsboro’s downtown core unique, fun, and vibrant to attract shoppers and new businesses that are (ideally) locally-owned while being mindful of the town’s history that ultimately sets Pittsboro apart from all other small towns. We work with our partners to bring events downtown, enhance and improve building facades, and make downtown more attractive, accessible, and liveable. Your support is vital.
Pittsboro’s Mobile Payment System
We are delighted to work with Mobipaid, a mobile payment system, based in Pittsboro. Yep, we keep it local every chance we get and hope you will, too.
A Main Street Pop-up-Dinner
Most pop-up dinners take place in restaurants or event spaces, but we’ve decided to go big *and* go home by taking this to the main street of Pittsboro (a.k.a. Hillsboro Street). So come on along! Enjoy a hand-crafted feast with friends in our picturesque small town on the edge of big things. If rain is forecast, we will be forced to move the event inside the Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store.
Did You Know…
• Did you know that Chatham County was characterized as a “creative goldmine” by leaders at the State Arts Council and that the Open Studio Arts tour is one of the oldest in the state?
Want to volunteer, have tons of experience, but seems cumbersome to go through you template for general volunteer opportunities. I expected something specific to this event.
My sister just bought a ticket, but I can’t afford the entry fee, so would love to work in return for being a part of this.
Thanks, Jay
Hi Jay – Thanks for your offer. We’d appreciate your help with set-up and tear down.
Sounds like fun.
Hi Jay, We’d love to have your help!! We’ll share your contact info with the folks who will be delighted to hear from you. Thank you.
I make local, seasonal bouquets. Are you interested ?
Are there vegetarian and vegan options available from the participating restaurants? I’d love to go but dont want to pay 100.00 for a salad.
We’re glad you asked. Yes! A limited number of vegetarian entrees made by Angelina’s Kitchen was a late addition to the dinner. When you buy your tickets, tell Greg or email him at greg@pittsbororoadhouse.com to let him know you need a vegetarian dinner.
What are you raising funds for and how much actually goes to that?
Hi Mike – Thanks for asking. Currently, we are an all-volunteer organization so 100% of the proceeds of tickets and raffle sales go to pay for whatever wasn’t donated for the event. We will use the balance for continuing to promote downtown such as advertising downtown Pittsboro in major media outlets, hosting or participating in other Pittsboro events, promoting downtown businesses, and infrastructure improvements.
