Summer Fest is almost here! The Third Annual Summer Fest, hosted by the Pittsboro Business Association, will be held on the First Sunday of July. This year, the First Sunday is July 1 and what a fantastic way to start the month!
The day will kick off with First Sunday activities from 12 Noon-4 pm featuring local crafts, food trucks, music, and more. This year there will be something new: downtown shops will host sidewalk sales. Stores up and down Hillsboro Street will have a selection of items at 17.76% off. Get into the spirit of the season and save on unique shopping options as only downtown Pittsboro can do it. Remember, it’s patriotic to #buylocal.
At 4 pm, expect to be dancing in the streets! Hillsboro Street will close to traffic so pedestrians can free range, while bands play on four separate stages throughout downtown. Just like Martha & the Vandellas sang in the old tune “Summer’s here and the time is right/For dancing in the streets”. Stay tuned for a big announcement about the artists providing the live music!
Summer Fest has something for everyone. Kids of all ages can decorate their bikes for the annual Stars and Stripes Bike Parade (visit the Pittsboro Business Association website for info on how to register) and there will be a water slide for when kids (and kids at heart) are ready to cool off. A beer garden will be available with adult beverages to wet whistles and cool jets.
Want more shopping? Shops will stay open PLUS First Sunday vendors will stay on the street.
Got a competitive streak? Join in the lifesize games. Or spit some watermelon seeds. Or dunk a friend in the dunking booth. A pie baking contest is planned for for those blessed with culinary gifts to strut their stuff. Hmmmm, what’s local and in season now?
To conclude the day’s festivities, there will be something new, special, and exciting this year. Once the sun has set, expect a laser light show like downtown Pittsboro has never seen before. This will be a spectacular grand finale as events wind down to close the festivities at 9 pm.
Come one, come all. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and dancing partners and prepare to celebrate in the Circle City. We look forward to seeing you on July 1st.
